Informality

This chapter aims to investigate the relationship between informality and SDGs, highlighting the dynamics of the literature and future research directions. Using bibliometric analysis, it explores a sample of 256 documents from the Google Scholar database covering the period 2015–2021. Descriptive analysis reveals yearly trends of publications, most active journals and leading authors. Content analysis identifies key research topics exploring word clouds and topic modelling, keyword classification and the link between words. Through network analysis, influential authors, impactful journals and keyword clusters are pointed out. The empirical results reveal the main areas of informality in the sphere of sustainability: urban development, women’s agenda and decent work, allowing decision makers to establish the most appropriate and effective measures to increase the implementation of the SDGs.
