Overview: Our team participated in the “Measuring Informality” course organized by ITCILO, designed to equip participants with the latest tools and methodologies for analyzing informal employment and the informal sector. The training was based on the new international statistical standard adopted by the 21st International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS, 2023).

The course brought together statisticians, economists, and policy professionals from around the world to strengthen their ability to measure and interpret informality, a central challenge in labor market diagnostics and sustainable development.

Key Themes:

• Updated definitions and concepts of informal employment and informal sector enterprises
• Survey design and data collection strategies for capturing informality
• Construction of indicators from raw data for evidence-based policymaking
• Socioeconomic drivers of informality and transitions to formality

Highlights:
Our team completed over 40 hours of intensive training, including case studies, applied exercises, and peer exchange. The course strengthened our capacity to contribute to national and regional efforts to improve the measurement, understanding, and governance of informal economies.
